Care Not Incarceration!

On a faded purple background, large bold pink text reads “CARE NOT INCARCERATION!” and underneath in light blue “Teach-In to End Coercive Institutionalization in Washington.” In pink text, below it says “Saturday May 22nd 11:00 a.m.” In the bottom left corner is a drawing of a white and turquoise hospital with a red door and red cross on its front, serving as a backdrop for a silhouette of two fists held together with handcuffs.

The State of Washington locks up people with disabilities. Whether the state is trying to put mentally ill people in prison, hold folks in a hospital with guards from the Department of Corrections, or keep developmentally or intellectually disabled people in institutions, we want it to end.

Come learn about the intersections between disability justice and abolition with panelists who have all experienced coercive institutionalization in Washington. At the end of the teach-in, there will be ways to plug into the work shutting down/defunding these institutions.
